![]() ![]() So you can simply move between the different areas in the campgrounds, to collect those continuously. Thankfully, most the singular arrowheads respawn in their locations. ![]() In the game, you have to find and collect purple arrowheads which serve as the currency in the game, where you can buy items from the camp store. One of my biggest gripes with the game so far is how much grinding you needed to do, to get anywhere further in the game. Not too sure what was going on with that. I did notice there appeared to be some stuttering during cutscenes, and that the game would randomly minimize itself. The fact that I think this was the only level where Raz’s outfit changed to match the environment he was in was a bonus. It felt like you were in a painting yourself, that was lit by black lights. I also thought it was the most beautiful, with the Spanish city vibe that was a mix of black backgrounds and fluorescent colors. To me, it was the most unique environment out of everything I had seen in Psychonauts. My favorite world (or level) was the Black Velvetopia, a mental world you enter near the end game. The fact you got tutorials to master your newly acquired powers was a major plus for me. The tutorial level set in a mental world that replicated a war-zone to teach you the basics was great. Or even just trying to figure out where I needed to go or even needed to do.Īlthough I must admit, I did enjoy the variety of locations that you see throughout the adventure. Maybe a bit too expansive as I recall being frustrated at how long it was taking to complete an area so I can progress with the story. Not just the campgrounds, the different levels you go through both in the ‘real-world’ and ‘mental’ are vastly expansive. Psychonauts has an open-world feel to it with the campgrounds alone, being a larger area than I had expected. Thankfully, I was able to remap the key bindings. It did make me wonder at one point if the game was originally designed with the controller in mind, as some of the keybindings were a little odd to me. This applies especially towards the end of the game where it required precision and timing. ![]() I was never able to find that middle ground which frustrated me. Whenever I tried, it ended either being too high or low in sensitivity. Right away, in the beginning, I noticed that the game had extremely low mouse sensitivity and camera speed. It was uplifting yet humorous at the same time. You follow the adventures of Razputin (aka Raz) in his quest to join the ranks of an elite group of psychic secret agents – the Psychonauts.īefore I go any further, I must say I did enjoy the beginning cutscene. Psychonauts, released on 19th April 2005 is a classic adventure platformer and a beloved cult classic from Double Fine Productions. ![]()
